What happens when the tree is put away, all the new toys have been played with, and it is soooo cold out you can't send them outside? You hear...I'm bored, the dreaded two word statement that used to send me over the edge! What about a great story to read. I have been reading a few YA and childrens novels. I thought I would suggest my favorites. And yes, it may be cliche, but reading can take you to a different land or even outer space. Great mystery, travel, and yes even a love story can keep them occupied for quite awhile. Here are some I would suggest:
Here's a new release for young readers, Dani Noir by Nova Ren Suma
I have read this and enjoyed it. It's about a little tween who loves Rita Hayworth. She lives in a little town that shows old Noir movies, and is bored to death. Her parents have divorced and her father is remarrying. A mystery begins when Dani sees a girl in pink polka dot tights leaving the theatre. ages 9-14 and 266 pages.

Nicola Berry, Earthling Ambassador by Liane Moriarty
This story is fast-paced and probably for a reader under 12 years of age. Nicola Berry must save the world from a giant Princess on Globagaskar, who wants to turn Earth into their own giant garbage can. 233 pages, soft cover
For the Young adult reader:
That Summer by Sarah Dessen

Fifteen year old Haven parents are divorced, father marrying the weather girl from the tv station and her older sister is marrying later in the summer. Haven meets up with one of her sister's ex boyfriends and reminds her of a special summer when her parents were happy and life seemed so perfect. This was a great read. 198 pages, soft cover
Impossible by Nancy Werlin

An evil Elf cast a curse on the Scarborough women years ago. Now, Lucy has come of age and is next in line. Her mother is crazy and Lucy lives with friends. This is a story of how Love can conquer evil. I must say this deals with rape and so it is for a mature teen. Loosely based on the song Scarborough Fair. paperback 371 pages
